The past decade has produced some pretty incredible movie franchises, some of which we will continue to see over the next 10 years. However, some of these major blockbuster franchises will probably be around for much longer.

It’s fascinating to see how Hollywood changes and yet still keeps some of its fundamental film series. Whether it’s through continuations or reboots, here’s 10 movie franchises we expect to see next decade, no matter how long they’ve already been running for!

POKEMON

This may seem strange considering there’s only been one live-action movie from this anime and video game franchise so far, however we believe this is just the start of a much larger cinematic world, that will continue to be explored.

The first film has clearly set the stage for something much more. The games and the animated series have crossed generations already, so it wouldn’t be too much of a leap to assume that after another 10 years this franchise will still be popular and brimming with potential.

WIZARDING WORLD

The wizarding universe created by J.K. Rowling has taken a setback recently, as some fans have felt the recent plot twists have resulted in some over the top storytelling. Despite that, this series absolutely has longevity.

The latest series of films will continue to be produced for some time and then there’s other spin-off potential in a variety of properties within the universe. We could even imagine films that take a look back at Harry and his friends, quite a few years on.

STAR WARS

The galaxy far far away has also taken audiences across a number of decades and it’s pretty much confirmed that after another 10 years we will still be getting huge tent pole movies from this franchise. In fact, we could even have a new trilogy.

While there’s plenty of rumors of revisiting known characters down the line, as well as exploring new eras such as the Old Republic, we know that in the 2030s and even the 2040s we will still be watching a version of the Skywalker saga.

LORD OF THE RINGS

We know that the lore behind this fantasy world is so rich that there will be ample opportunity to continue to flesh out its characters and locations. Why would big movie executives top with just six films therefore when there so much more to be achieved.

KINGSMAN

This spy franchise has had a recent success and a recent flop. It’s not that different from a number of other movie series on this list therefore. However, the idea behind the British series is actually quite unique and still appealing.

This decade will already feature a prequel of sorts and likely a major sequel. How well these two films are received will make or break the opportunity to continue moving this franchise into the following decade. We believe it has the potential to do so.

MISSION IMPOSSIBLE

As long as Tom Cruise doesn’t injure himself on one of his many crazy stunts then this over the top, action, blockbuster series will continue to run. After turning out the best film in the series, there’s no stopping this juggernaut.

There’s so much more that can be done with the series and the fact is, even if Tom Cruise was eventually removed, or put into a more supporting role, there’s plenty of fresh ideas here that could continue producing classic action thrillers for years to come.

JAMES BOND

Another spy franchise now and it’s fairly obvious that this British blockbuster series will never ever be finished. Every time it looks like the franchise is on its way out, there’s a recast, a new direction and it becomes absolutely massive again.

The series is currently enjoying a very successful run, one we have no doubt will continue in the next 10 years, although likely without Daniel Craig in the lead role anymore. Regardless, another new concept or ideal will propel this classic forwards.

TOY STORY

The animated series from Pixar has seemingly just hit its final chapter. While some series have the absolute worst of endings, others such as this, are concluded in such a satisfying way that we really don’t want to see anything else.

Regardless of this though, we know that there’s going to be some kind of revival of this franchise down the line. This is the crown jewel of Pixar and so the studio will never be truly finished with the popular movies that put them on the map.

ROCKY

Sylvester Stallone may not be producing films forever, but the character he has created will live on. Although we’ve seen a spin-off franchise that could allow for the continuation of this iconic movie series, we have something else in mind.

Although it might seem criminal right now, there’s a huge possibility that this whole series could be rebooted, much like other action classics of the 70s, 80s and 90s. We could very well see the same story all over again. If they choose not to do that, we can always see the legacy continue on the shoulders of Michael B. Jordan with another Creed movie.

MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE

The Marvel Cinematic Universe entered its first decade of production and it will enter its second before we even know it. A long future has been planned out for this crossover world of superheroes, villains, magic, aliens and monsters.

The fact is, there’s such a wealth of storytelling available at Marvel and with such a long history at the company already, it’s not that ridiculous to assume that in 10 years time we’d still be watching these same characters fight for the justice of Earth; we assume much like DC’s heroes.
