Modern Family is a sitcom that premiered in 2009. The series premiered its 10th and final season in 2019, meaning that fans will have to say goodbye to the extended Dunphy family after the series ends. Although we’ve had a long run with this hilarious TV family and we’ve loved watching them grow up and evolve, all good things and shows must eventually come to an end, something that we’re all well aware of even if we don’t necessarily like to think about our favorite shows ending.

Luckily, Modern Family ending doesn’t necessarily mean that we’re going to be left without any sitcoms to watch. There are a ton of other hilarious sitcoms that are either currently airing or have aired in the past that fans might not have seen. Our time with Modern Family may be coming to an end with the close of the 10th season, but we have a ton of other sitcoms that can take its place and make us laugh.

Fresh Off The Boat

Fresh Off the Boat is a sitcom that began airing in 2015 and is set to end in 2020 with the close of its sixth season. But, the fact that this family sitcom is ending in 2020 doesn’t necessarily mean that you can’t still enjoy all six seasons of this hilarious series after Modern Family ends.

Fresh Off the Boat is a sitcom that is based on an autobiography of the same name by celebrity chef Eddie Huang. The series is set in Florida in the 1990s after Eddie and his family moved there so that his dad could open a restaurant. The series follows life in the 1990s for this Taiwanese-American family living in suburban Orlando.

Superstore

Superstore began airing in 2015. The series follows a group of employees who work at a fictional big-box store in St. Louis called Cloud 9. The series isn’t necessarily a “family” based sitcom the way Modern Family is, but the employees at Cloud 9 almost feel like a non-traditional family in the way that their relationships with each other work.

The series is primarily set within the store and follows as the employees deal with their personal lives, their work lives, and interactions with customers.

Black-Ish

Black-ish is a sitcom that began airing in 2014 and follows the Johnson family. If you’ve already seen Black-ish, a spin-off series that follows the oldest Johnson child, Zoey, as she goes away to college called Grown-ish premiered on Freeform in 2018.

Black-ish follows the upper-middle class family’s lives as they deal with work, family issues, and social issues. The family includes father Dre, an advertising executive, mom Rainbow, a doctor, and their children: Zoey, Junior, Jack, and Diane, as well as their grandparents and other relatives. The series has its serious moments, but is primarily humorous in the way it handles social issues.

How I Met Your Mother

How I Met Your Mother aired from 2005 through 2014 when the final season aired. This sitcom follows Ted Mosby as he tells his children stories from his younger years, before he was married and had kids. The series opens as he promises to tell them the story of how he met the woman who would become their mother. Although it took nine seasons, Ted did finally tell them this story.

But, before we get to who the mother is and how Ted met her, we’re taken through several years of his life that lead up to it. We’re taken through other relationships Ted had, fun times he shared with his friends, and generally what his life was like in the mid-2000s in a humorous way.

My Name Is Earl

My Name Is Earl is a sitcom that aired from 2005 through 2009 when it was unexpectedly cancelled, leaving fans with some major questions. Despite the fact that this series ended on something of a cliffhanger, the sitcom is still one that was totally hilarious through all four seasons and is a good one to watch if you’re looking for something funny.

This series follows a man named Earl who hasn’t always been a great person. He’s made some questionable decisions and has done some things that he regrets over the years, but when he wins the lottery, he decides to turn that all around. He makes a list of all the things that he’s done wrong and sets out to make them right again.

Raising Hope

Raising Hope is a sitcom that aired from 2010 through 2014. This series follows the Chance family, a well-meaning, somewhat poor family living in the fictional town of Natesville. The Chance family’s life changes when their only son, Jimmy, gets a convicted felon pregnant and is tasked with taking care of the baby, Hope.

This series follows as Jimmy tries his best to navigate fatherhood while balancing his family life with his parents and his grandma, Maw Maw. The series is hilarious and although it follows a much smaller family than Modern Family, it’s still a great family-based sitcom.

The Goldbergs

The Goldbergs is a sitcom that began airing in 2013 and spawned a spin-off called Schooled. This sitcom is set in the 1980s in Pennsylvania and is based on the early life of the creator of the show, Adam F. Goldberg.

The series follows as this sci-fi obsessed teen uses his camera to film the wacky happenings of his family including his parents, grandpa, and two older siblings. Many real home movies that were filmed by Goldberg are featured in the series when it recreates certain humorous scenes from his childhood, adding to the comedy of the show.

Arrested Development

Arrested Development is a series that premiered in 2003 and was cancelled shortly after, despite being fairly popular among viewers, but was later picked up by Netflix and more episodes were released on the streaming service.

This sitcom follows a large family that has a lot of drama. The main character of the series is Michael Bluth, a man who is forced to take over his father’s real estate company after his father winds up in prison. This once-wealthy family has its ups and downs, but the series is hilarious the whole way through.

Gilmore Girls

Gilmore Girls is part-comedy, part-drama, and totally binge-worthy. This series follows mother-daughter pair Lorelai and Rory Gilmore. They live in Stars Hollow, Connecticut and Lorelai is the owner of an inn in the small town. The series originally aired from 2000 through 2007, but a miniseries showing their lives after the series ended aired on Netflix in 2016.

This quirky series follows the lives of Lorelai and Rory as well as the other people living in Stars Hollow, including Lorelai’s wealthy parents, Emily and Richard, and the people that Rory goes to school with.

Freaks And Geeks

Freaks and Geeks is a comedic series that aired from 1999 through 2000 for a single season. Although it had such a short run on the air, the show has still managed to become massively popular and stars a younger version of huge stars that we know and love today, like Seth Rogen, James Franco, and Jason Segel.

The series is set in the early 1980s and follows a pair of siblings named Lindsay and Sam. Sam doesn’t exactly fit in at his school and is definitely considered a “geek” along with his friends, while Lindsay is popular with the slacker crowd.
