Let’s get this out of the way upfront: Salem talks in The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Season 3… no, he doesn’t. Like, at all. We’ll let you recover from that temporary high and come back down to planet Earth. Still here? Chances are that most of the people searching for more information on this show have already seen it’s first two seasons. It goes without saying that this list will go into actual spoiler territory. Everyone has been warned.
There are a lot of interesting elements running through the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. In fact, there are some plot-lines that fans are eagerly anticipating a resolution to. Let’s take a look at some of these storylines, and the pressure that Season 3 is under to deliver.
Ambrose
Here’s a title pitch for the third Fantastic Beasts movie: Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Ambrose. Ambrose seems to constantly get himself into a bind. So much so that he’s literally bound to his home for eternity.
Its been established that Ambrose is confined to his house because he attempted to blow up the Vatican. However, this storyline doesn’t progress all that much by the end of the second season. The only development is that Ambrose can travel between his house and The Academy of Unseen Arts. What’s more, the majority of Ambrose’s second season arc deals with a new crime: murdering none other than the Anti-Pope. This presents some compelling drama, but it also makes the events revolving around Ambrose’s confinement grind to a halt. Hopefully the third season will help Ambrose’s main conflict gain traction.
Sabrina and Nick
If Sabrina and Nick were a candy they’d be a Snicker (Sabrina + Nick). Has that joke been said enough yet? Anyway, Sabrina and Nick’s relationship status is in constant flux.
Some of Season 2’s most dramatic scenes center around Sabrina’s romance with Nick. There are moments where it seems like Sabrina might even be more infatuated with Nick than Harvey. However, it’s not all sunshine and glamour spells with Snicker. Season 2 reveals that Nick had actually been working as Satan’s double agent the entire time. Sabrina feels appropriately betrayed. Madam Satan ends up taking Nick back to hell by the end of the season. Sabrina vows to save Nick, but does this mean her distrust will also be resolved by next season?
Sabrina and Harvey
There should be a drinking game revolving around every time Harvey says “Brina.” Never mind, that would require so much drinking that it may result in liver failure.
There’s a ton of Snicker shippers out there, but let’s get real for a minute. The beating heart of this show is the romance between Harvey and Sabrina. The clash of the mortal and witch world has always been what makes Sabrina a compelling character. Season 2 in particular plays romantic ping pong with Sabrina and Harvey…until it completely doesn’t. One episode sort of just drops the romantic tension when Sabrina acts blasé about Harvey dating Roz. Then, a few episodes later, Sabrina and Harvey have a little bit of romantic feelings again. Our hearts can’t take it! For everyone’s sanity, we hope that Sabrina chooses which dude she wants to date by Season 3.
Lupercalia
There are some things in life that can’t be unseen. Seeing a half-naked man pet a seven-foot-tall werewolf wearing a nightgown is one of those things. All of this goes down in Season 2’s episode about Lupercalia - the witch equivalent to Valentine’s Day.
Although the episode has some interesting moments revolving around Nick and Sabrina’s relationship, it still isn’t enough to distract from the bizarreness of Lupercalia. The whole event revolves around a bunch of teenagers cavorting in the middle of the forest. Look, there’s nothing wrong with showing a group of witches giving into their carnal pleasures. All of that kind of comes with the territory. However, by the time Lupercalia rolls around, it’s the third time in the series that the audience has witnessed warlocks and witches participating in group activities that… well, are none too wholesome. Having one episode dedicated to Lupercalia is more than enough.
Roz and Harvey
If Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is anything to go by, it’s clearly not awkward at all to date your best friend’s ex-boyfriend. It’s not as if something like that would create a flood of trust and self-esteem issues, right? These are Greendale rules, people. Aint nobody got time for such trivial nonsense like respect and integrity.
Awkwardness aside, there’s some pretty sweet moments between Roz and Harvey. The nicest interactions between the two characters are whenever Harvey tries to be an emotional rock for Roz as she starts to go blind. Conversely, Harvey’s past fling with Sabrina always threatens to end his relationship with Roz. There’s undoubtedly a lot of relationship drama the next season has to address.
Don’t Trust Sabrina
Here we go again with the trust issues. It makes sense that Sabrina’s mortal friends are a bit shocked to find out that she’s a witch. Moreover, it makes even more sense that Sabrina’s friends have a hard time trusting her for that same reason.
The majority of the second season’s first half deals with Sabrina’s pals coming to terms with this piece of information. There are various scenes where Harvey channels his ancestors’ inner witch hunter and freaks out on Sabrina. Her friends end up trusting her again by the end of the second season. However, television shows always need conflict, and one can’t help but wonder if Season 3 will fall back on this storyline for a source of drama.
Retrieving Nick
How weird is it that Sabrina says to ex-boyfriend Harvey, “Lets go to hell and get my boyfriend back?” Harvey probably instantly regretted offering to help out Sabrina.
Regardless, this sets up Season 3’s main conflict. The Fright Club is going to hell to fight Madam Satan. Sounds frightening and adventurous.
Mrs. Wardwell
We’re going to address the elephant in the room: Madam Satan (A.K.A Mrs. Wardwell) has a crow that speaks at the end of Season 1. As in, the bird moves his mouth kind of talking. Then he never does it again. Why is no-one talking about how freaky this is?! Salam, if you can talk, you better start doing that right now!
Anyway, we’re here to talk about Mrs. Wardwell. The second season ends with Madam Satan going to hell and the real Mrs. Wardwell returning to Greendale. Sabrina is both happy and shocked to see the real version of her favorite teacher return to town. Something seems kind of off about Mrs. Wardwell this time around. Only time will tell if Mrs. Wardwell ends up being a friend or foe to Sabrina.
Let Us Help!
Sure, Harvey calls himself a freak by the end of Season 2 and everything seems peachy. Sorry, we meant that the Freak Show is in town by the season’s finale. Okay, let’s try that again. The FRIGHT CLUB is formed by the end of the season.
The Fright Club’s formation is a pretty cool moment. Yet, every scene leading up to this centers around Sabrina’s friends (mostly Harvey) wanting to help Sabrina and getting rejected for wanting to be helpful. It makes sense considering Sabrina wants to protect her friends. Season 2 seems to conclude this conflict by putting together the Fright Club. Conversely, Season 3 will presumably put its characters through all sorts of danger. Hopefully Sabrina will continue to let her friends be by her side rather than pushing them away.
Sabrina Goes To Riverdale
Forget Avengers: Endgame…The Riverdale/Chilling Adventures of Sabrina crossover is the event the world has absolutely been clamoring for.
More seriously, this is the storyline that fans want to ultimately experience. The Afterlife With Archie comic book deals with Sabrina going to hell so that she can defend her friends in Riverdale. It’s no secret that the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina television show constantly name-drops Greendale’s neighboring town - Riverdale. Since Sabrina literally says that she’s going to hell next season, it’s not far off to assume that this dream crossover might actually happen.
