Captain Marvel continues to light up the box office, marking yet another success for the MCU. But while audiences are still checking out her solo movie, people are already talking about Carol Danvers role in Avengers: Endgame.

With this movie serving as the last MCU entry before the highly-anticipated team-up film, obviously, fans were going to be scrambling to find any hint at what’s in store for the Avengers’ showdown with Thanos. Though Captain Marvel takes place in the ’90s and does focus on Carol’s heroic journey, it did reveal some interesting information about what comes next. So after watching Captain Marvel, here’s what it can tell us about Avengers: Endgame.

Carol Hasn’t Been Back To Earth

When it was announced that Captain Marvel would be set in the ’90s, one of the biggest mysteries was where Carol has been all this time. If she is such a powerful hero who comes from Earth, surely it would have been helpful to have her around when the Chitauri attacked New York or Ultron almost ended the world.

The movie explains this by having Carol leave Earth to help the Skrulls find a new home planet. It would seem that after leaving, Carol never returned. Therefore, when she appears at Avengers HQ, it is her first time on Earth roughly 25 years.

The Avengers Find Fury’s Pager

The first hint at the character of Captain Marvel in the MCU was seen in the much talked about post-credit scene to Avengers: Infinity War. Nick Fury sends the hero desperate message via a pager before being “dusted”. Captain Marvel shows the origin of the pager, but it’s the mid-credit scene that adds further insight.

In the stinger, we see the Avengers now have the pager in their possession. While a little hard to believe, it’s not implausible that the Avengers would find out Fury’s last location and find the device. This seems to confirm the team knows Fury is gone by the beginning of the film.

Monica Might Become A Hero

Monica Rambeau has a small role in Captain Marvel as a link to Carol’s past life. However, comic book fans will know what she has a much larger role to play in the future. Monica eventually grows up to be a superhero herself, even taking on the title of Captain Marvel for a time.

The film subtly hints at this future as Monica constantly looks up to Carol and her heroism. There are also some winks to the audience of mentioning joining Carol and building her own ship to join her in space. With Monica an adult at the time of Endgame, she could actually play a role in helping the Avengers.

The Avengers Are Back In HQ

The Avengers HQ was first introduced at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron. Since then it’s popped up in several movies until the Avengers were disbanded in Captain America: Civil War. In Avengers: Infinity War, it’s mentioned that this is no longer a safe place for the group after the Sokovia Accords.

In Captain Marvel, we get confirmation that this will once again be the heroes’ base of operations. We see Captain America, Black Widow, and the others meeting here while investigating Fury’s mysterious pager. Obviously, the world has more to worry about than the Sokovia Accords.

Carol Knows Where To Find The Avengers

It’s hard to say how much Carol knows about the Avengers before returning to Earth. Sure, they’re Earth’s mightiest heroes, but their reputation doesn’t seem to extend to the farthest reaches of the galaxy.

However, Carol seems to be somewhat well-informed as the mid-credits scene shows she knows exactly where to find Fury’s pager. Maybe she has a very accurate tracker on the pager, but it could be that word of the Avengers and their battle with Thanos made its way to her.

Probably No Secret Invasion

As soon as it was announced the Skrulls would be featured in the Captain Marvel film, fans immediately began speculating which of their favorite MCU characters were actually the space-shifting aliens. But the movie’s third act reveal pretty much put an end to all those theories.

In the comics, the Skrull were responsible for invading Earth and disguising themselves as several characters. Captain Marvel put a twist on the story, making the Skrulls victims of war rather than instigators. It’s possible there could be some bad apple Skrulls out there, but any big reveals are unlikely.

Captain Marvel Is Connected To The Space Stone

Another fun reveal in the film was the reappearance of the Tesseract. First seen in Captain America: The First Avenger, the Tesseract has become an object of great importance in the MCU and, of course, contains the Space Stone which is now in Thanos’ possession.

Like Vision and Scarlet Witch, Carol is yet another hero to gain her powers from an Infinity Stone. It’s unclear what implications this means for the fight against Thanos, but it could be that she has the ability to destroy the stone. Or the stone might have some control over her.

Captain Marvel Shows Up Early

It has been known for quite a while that Captain Marvel would be teaming up with the Avengers in Avengers: Endgame, but it was still uncertain how early she would be getting involved in the fight.

Judging by the mid-credits scene in Captain Marvel, she joins up with the other heroes quite early in the film. It’s widely believed the mid-credit scene is lifted directly from Avengers: Endgame, but it must be right at the beginning of the film. Fans were quick to point out Captain America’s beard and Black Widow’s hair as indicators that this is taking place right after “The Snap”. Seems like fans will get plenty of Captain Marvel.

She Is Very Powerful

Captain Marvel has been teased for some time as the most powerful hero in the MCU. We now finally have gotten a glimpse of what that power looks like and it certainly seems like Thanos is in trouble.

With the power of the Space Stone combined with her combat skills, Captain Marvel seems to have balanced the odds a bit in the fight against the Mad Titan. Of course, no one is expecting things to go that easy for the heroes, but with her joining the team, the universe now has its best shot at victory.

A New Captain?

There have been many heroes to hold the title of Captain Marvel over the years. As Carol Danvers is probably the most popular, it makes sense that she would be the first Captain Marvel introduced in the MCU. However, she is never actually referred to by that name in the film.

This omission has led to a bittersweet theory from fans. Many are speculating that Steve Rogers aka Captain America won’t survive Endgame. Some think that when he dies, Carol will take up the “Captain” title to lead the team. It would be a fitting way to move into the next stage of the MCU, but we don’t know if we’re ready to handle that just yet.
