The reboot of all reboots, Fuller House, has been on Netflix for five seasons, and the characters combined with witty dialogue have been making us laugh the whole time, just like with the original Full House. From DJ trying to juggle her love life and parenting to the never-ending line of kids in the house, there’s always a lot going on in the former Tanner household.

One thing that the writers seem to love doing is breaking the fourth wall, a tactic sometimes done in fictional movies and television shows where the characters somehow acknowledge that they are on TV rather than acting like their characters and lives actually exist. This is often done by looking directly into the camera or referencing the actor’s real lives, and if done correctly, it can be pretty funny. Here are 10 times the fourth wall was broken by the Fuller House characters:

General Hospital

The first episode entitled, “Our Very First Show, Again,” has a few instances of breaking the fourth wall. One of them occurs when Uncle Jesse talks about his new job. He says that he will be moving to LA to become the music producer on General Hospital, his favorite series. “They always hire the best actors on that show.” It just so happens that John Stamos, who plays Jesse, got his start on General Hospital in the 80s playing Blackie Parrish. No wonder he thinks they hire the best actors.

Dancing with the Stars

In episode 3 of season 1, “Funner House,” Kimmy, DJ, and Stephanie go out on the town for a night of partying. DJ ends up dancing with a man she meets, and he asks her how she got to be so good at dancing. DJ says that she watches Dancing with the Stars every week.

This is a reference to DJ’s actress, Candace Cameron Bure, appearing as a contestant on the show in season 18. Both DJ’s and Stephanie’s dance partners, played by Val and Maks Chmerkovskiy, are also on Dancing with the Stars in real life as professional dancers.

Mary Kate and Ashley’s Acting Career

One person noticeably missing from the Full House reunion show is the youngest daughter Michelle, who was played by Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen. While they have yet to make an appearance, the writers have used their absence to make a couple of jokes. In season 1 episode 7, “Ramona’s Not So Epic Party,” Ramona gets a new dress that she says was designed by Mary Kate and Ashley, who actually do have their own fashion line. Kimmy says, “At these prices, no wonder they don’t need to act anymore.”

Lame Reunion Show

Danny is visiting DJ and the family in season 1 episode 8, “Secrets, Lies, and Firetrucks.” We all remember when Danny and Aunt Becky hosted the hit California morning show Wake Up, San Francisco, and he’s in town for the reunion. Kimmy comments, “Isn’t it kind of sad when they drag out the old cast for some lame reunion show?” This is jokingly referencing the fact that this is exactly what happened with all of them, as they were brought out for a Full House reunion. Danny then says what we’re all thinking: “Not when the show is adored by millions and the stars are beloved cultural icons.” You said it, Tanner!

Full House, Fuller House

The name of the original TV show comes from the fact that the house was indeed full, starting with six people and eventually having nine. The name of the reunion show implies that the house is more full, and it just so happens that the last name of DJ and her boys is Fuller.

It’s always amusing when a character says the title of the movie or show that they are in, and this is exactly what happens when the boys are playing cards in episode 8. Danny states that he got a full house, but then Max lays down one as well, with higher ranking cards, and says, “fuller house.”

Child Actress

Audiences first met and fell in love with Candace Cameron Bure, DJ, and Jodie Sweetin, Stephanie, when they were kids, and it was Full House that gave them their big start and made them famous! In season 1 episode 11, “Partnerships in the Night,” DJ makes a joke referencing that they started out as young tykes on TV. Raven Symone comes up in conversation, who first appeared on TV at a young age as well on The Cosby Show. DJ says, “What does she know? She’s a child actress!” poking fun at the fact that Candace and Jodie were too!

No Commercials

Who loves getting their television programs interrupted countless times to watch boring commercials? Nobody we know! The characters on Fuller House don’t seem to like it either, including Jimmy Gibbler. He and Stephanie are talking about making a music video for Stephanie’s new song, and Jimmy mentions that he wishes there was a place to watch entertainment where there weren’t any commercials. Doesn’t something like that exist already? Oh, yeah! It’s Netflix! That just so happens to be the streaming platform that Fuller House appears on. “I’d pay a monthly fee for that.” We would too, Jimmy, especially if it had shows like Fuller House!

Ooooo

It’s known that Fuller House is filmed in front of a live studio audience, and because of this, we often hear their reactions, such as laughter and applause, to things that happen in the scenes. Another common exclamation is a loud “oooo” when a pair are kissing.

This occurs in season 2 episode 9, “Glazed and Confused,” and for the time, the characters acknowledge it. DJ comments that she keeps hearing it in her head, and later in the episode after a smooch, Matt says that he heard it that time too!

Hallmark Movie

It’s DJ’s birthday in season 2 episode 11, “New Kids in the House,” and everyone has gotten her a special present. Her young son Max purchases a jewelry box as his gift, and he decides to hide the key in a cupcake, similar to how a ring was hidden in a glass of champagne in a Hallmark movie that he saw which starred, in his words, “the lovely Lori Loughlin.” Who’s Lori Loughlin, you ask? She plays Fuller House’s very own Aunt Becky! Funnily enough, both Jodie Sweetin and Candace Cameron Bure have also appeared in Hallmark movies.

Tuna Commercial Mom

When you think tuna fish, what do you think of? Salad? Sandwiches? How about gorgeous women? Well, this is definitely what Jackson’s friend Mankowski thinks of in season 3 episode 4, “My Little Hickey.” He visits the Fuller residence and instantly has the hots for DJ when she comes in the room, as he says, “Wow, you’re like a sexy mom in a tuna commercial.” This is a shout out to the several Starkist tuna commercials that Candace Cameron Bure has starred in. DJ replies, “I do love tuna. It’s a smart choice when I’m on the go!”
