The 1990s were an interesting time for the film industry. The decade brought movie fans lots of unforgettable films, and many of them were movies that the whole family could enjoy.
Toy Story is a great example of this because it is one of the best kids’ movies of that decade. Another great movie that came out during that time was the film Flubber, which is actually a remake of a movie that was called The Absent Minded Professor, which was released in the early 1960’s.
This decade was full of fun kids’ movies that are already considered classics these days. Here are some of them.
Babe (1995)
On August 4, 1995, the movie Babe was released in American movie theaters. This is a cute movie, and its story focuses on a pig who was brought up by sheepdogs. The main character is pretty unique and adorable, which is part of the reason why this movie is so much fun to watch.
There was also a sequel to this movie, and it was released in the 1990s as well. Babe: Pig In The City came out in 1998. Those who are big fans of the original film might be interested to know that there are lots of continuity errors, such as the fact that the weather abruptly changes during one scene.
George Of The Jungle (1997)
George Of The Jungle came out in 1997, and it still gets a few laughs to this day. Even though the film basically has the same story as Tarzan, there are still many reasons to enjoy it.
This movie has a lot of very talented actors and actresses in it. Brendan Fraser plays the lead role, and Leslie Mann plays his love interest. This movie has a little something in it for everyone, since it is full of comedy, action, and romance. And yet, it still remains safe for little ones to watch and enjoy. Thomas Haden Church is another star who is featured in this film.
The Iron Giant (1999)
The Iron Giant has a star-studded cast, and it came out in the late 1990s. The plotline centers around a little boy named Hogarth Hughes, and a giant robot that originally came from outer space.
As the movie progresses, the two main characters form a very strong bond. But things are not easy for them, since someone sets out to get rid of the robot. Those who have paid a great deal of attention to the movie may have noticed that Vin Diesel is the voice behind the robot. Another famous person who is a part of this cast is Jennifer Aniston.
The Parent Trap (1998)
Even though it is a remake, the 1998 version of The Parent Trap is still hilarious in its own way, and it is definitely underrated. When a film is a remake of another movie that was already very popular, it seems like it can be difficult for audiences to enjoy the scenes in it that differ from the story of the original movie, but most of this film is very enjoyable, which just shows how awesome it is.
One thing that really makes this movie special is Lindsay Lohan’s performance. Playing twins has to be a very difficult thing, but Lindsay made it look easy. The film also has an excellent villain.
Hercules (1997)
Lots of people love animated movies, but it seems that the 1997 cartoon Hercules does not get the attention it really deserves. The movie is about a fascinating figure from Greek mythology, and it makes his story easy for little ones to understand, which is part of what makes this film so classic.
One of the other things that makes this film fun to watch is the music. There are many great songs in it that really add a lot to the viewing experience fans get when they sit down to watch it. Also, the characters that are played by Danny DeVito and James Woods are hilarious.
The Indian In The Cupboard (1995)
The Indian In The Cupboard is not much like any other movie that came out around that time. The lead character gets some really strange gifts from other characters in the movie, and he ends up experiencing something really cool.
Two of the gifts he received were a toy resembling an Indigenous American and an old cupboard. When he locks the toy in the cupboard, he discovers that the cupboard is not just any ordinary object, since it brings the toy to life. This movie makes viewers wonder what kind of adventures would happen if this were able to happen in real life.
Matilda (1996)
Matilda is about a little girl who has telekinetic powers, and it came out in 1996. This movie is a lot of fun for kids to watch since the lead character demonstrates her powers a lot, but it is also a great film that shows that it is okay to be different from everyone else, which is a message that all kids should hear at some point.
In the film, Matilda Wormwood is someone who is a lot different than her family, as well as the people whom she spends time with at her school. Her parents love her, but they really don’t understand her, and she has to deal with a horrible principle. And, as with many other kids’ movies, things eventually get a bit better for her.
Small Soldiers (1998)
Small Soldiers is a 1998 movie that is enjoyable for both children and adults, and the story is full of action and adventure. Most of the movie is about toys who are very technologically advanced.
Technology is great, but sometimes it can get a little bit out of hand, and that is exactly what this movie is about. Since the toys in the film have some equipment in them that they probably should never have had in the first place, they start fighting against each other, which makes this a very fun film to watch.
Those who love it might know that it stars a very young Kirsten Dunst, who does a phenomenal job as a character named Christy Fimple. Denis Leary is in it as well.
My Girl (1991)
Anyone who wants to watch the 1991 film My Girl should probably have a box of tissues on hand, since there are a lot of scenes in it that are very emotional. This movie is all about growing up, which is part of the reason why everyone should check it out.
That is something that everyone goes through, which means that this movie is really relatable for a lot of people. This movie features some magnificent actors and actresses, including Anna Chlumsky, Macauley Culkin, Dan Aykroyd, and Jamie Lee Curtis.
Anastasia (1997)
Some movies turn real events into fascinating stories, and that is what happened with Anastasia, which came out in the late 1990s. The overall story of this film is one of the things that sets it apart from other films that were similar to it, since it is about a person who got separated from her royal family members.
A great deal of the movie is about the lead character trying to get back to her grandmother. But things are not very easy for her, since someone else is out to cause her a lot of harm. One of the best things about this movie is the music, since it features some very memorable songs.
