More than any other piece of pop culture, Star Wars is the most dissected property around. For every film that is released, fans dive into every frame, line and character to reveal as much as they can about the overall universe. With more films and television series on the way that connect to the original canon, there will be plenty of Star Wars material to obsess over for years to come.

However, with all the Star Wars content available, there are still those questions that have remained unanswered. From the original trilogy to the newest spin-off, there are still plenty of unknown elements from the galaxy far, far away. Here are the biggest unsolved mysteries from Star Wars canon.

10. Chewie’s Snub

At the end of A New Hope, after destroying the Death Star and saving the Rebels, our heroes are thanked for their victory with an awards ceremony. Luke Skywalker and Han Solo are presented with medals by Princess Leia. It’s a nice honor, and given their heroism, well-deserved. But why didn’t Chewie get a medal?

While he might not have been the one to blow up the Death Star, Chewie risked his life just as everyone else did. George Lucas explained that Chewie wouldn’t care much about not getting a medal, but you’d think they would show their appreciation in some way.

9. Mace Windu

Samuel L. Jackson’s Mace Windu was a significant character in the prequels. But seeing as he was a Jedi, you knew things weren’t going to end well for him. Sure enough, when he attempts to arrest Palpatine, he has his arm severed, he’s electrocuted and finally falls out a window.

Surely, all that would mean a certain death for Windu, but the Jedi are resilient warriors. According to Jackson himself, Windu survived the fall and George Lucas apparently agrees. But if he is alive, where is he – and will he appear again?

8. Luke’s Lightsaber?

Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber that was lost at the end of Empire Strikes Back became something of a MacGuffin in The Force Awakens. Rey stumbled upon it while in Maz Kanata’s tavern and it sent her own her own path to becoming a Jedi.

However, you have to wonder how exactly Maz came to possess this very significant item. The filmmakers didn’t seem to have an answer for that either as Maz brushed it aside as a tale for another time. With Maz confirmed to be in Star Wars 9, maybe that time has finally come.

7. Snoke

One of the grievances some fans had with The Last Jedi was that it seemed to toss aside the biggest reveals that were set up in The Force Awakens. One of the biggest questions was regarding the identity of Supreme Emperor Snoke.

There were plenty of theories about who this villain would turn out to be. But Rian Johnson chose to kill off the character without revealing much about him at all. With J.J. Abrams returning for Star Wars 9, we may get answers. Then again, it might just not be important anymore.

6. Vader And His Droid

The idea to explore Anakin Skywalker’s origins in the prequel films was a good idea, but George Lucas just couldn’t help jamming every popular character into the story. This led to a lot of confusing, “they knew each other?” moments. One of the biggest is the fact that Anakin himself created C-3PO.

Despite this very significant connection between two major characters in the series, neither of them shows any recognition of it when they meet as enemies in Empire Strikes Back. Was C-3PO’s memory wiped? Did Vader forget his own creation? Or was the situation just too awkward to acknowledge their relationship?

5. Darth Maul’s Return

The biggest surprise in Solo: A Star Wars Story was obviously the cameo appearance by Darth Maul. The intimidating Sith Lord was last scene getting cut in half by Obi-Wan before tumbling down an abyss in The Phantom Menace.

Like Mace Windu, it’s hard to believe he could survive such a fate but there he was with brand new legs. This raises a lot of questions about how he survived, what he has been doing since then and if he’ll ever appear again. Maybe if we get a Solo sequel, we’ll get some answers.

4. The Jedi Texts

The sacred Jedi texts are introduced in The Last Jedi. Luke Skywalker has been safeguarding these books which are said to delve into the history of the Jedi, lost wisdom of their order and unknown abilities of Jedi Masters.

Luke, with the help of Yoda, attempts to destroy the texts but Rey secretly smuggled them with her when she left. Though Yoda seems to think the texts aren’t too important, it would be interesting to see what Rey might find in there. It could be these texts hold a secret that could change everything.

3. Vader And His Daughter

The evidence is starting to add up that Vader had a really bad memory. First, he fails to recognize his own droid, and much worse, he doesn’t acknowledge his own daughter when he apprehends her.

If Vader was willing to tell Luke the truth, why not tell Leia as well? It could be that Vader is keeping his parentage a secret on purpose. However, the more likely answer is that Lucas hadn’t thought of this idea yet. That could also explain the weird things going on between Luke and Leia early in the series.

2. Boba Fett

It’s amazing how much love Boba Fett has gotten from the fandom despite being a fairly inconsequential character. But he looks cool in his armor, so fans refused to believe that he actually died when he was knocked into the Sarlaac Pit in Return of the Jedi. So did he actually die?

For decades, fans has been devising theories about how the bounty hunter could have survived. He has yet to appear in any films taking place after Return of the Jedi. But his popularity is responsible for the upcoming The Mandalorian show. Could he pop up there?

1. Anakin’s Father

While the prequels gave us a lot of insight into Anakin Skywalker’s past, there were still several questions left open. The biggest among them is how Anakin was conceived. His mother claims there was no father which seems like Lucas taking a pretty big leap, linking this to Biblical storytelling.

However, Palpatine later talks about individuals who are so strong with the Force that they are able to actually create life. This could be the answer to the mystery, but it’s never confirmed. It’s unlike Lucas to leave such a reveal unanswered like that so maybe he had other ideas.
