There are many exciting things set to be released in 2020. From great anime to horror movies to superhero TV shows, there is something for everyone to enjoy in the new year  — even if you are one of the pickiest viewers and have your own specific tastes.

Of course, one article would not be enough to dish on every movie there is to see this year, so here are the 10 Upcoming Movies To Be Excited For In Winter 2020.

Bad Boys for Life - January 17

One of the two movies that are already in cinemas, Bad Boys for Life is the third movie in the trilogy headed by Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. This action-comedy follows two detectives in the Miami Police Department as they investigate different crime cases.

Surprisingly enough, the film was well-received both by critics and regular audiences (compared that to mixed and poor critical reviews of the first two movies), so you can expect a fun, action-packed flick that you can enjoy with friends as you munch on popcorn.

Dolittle - January 17

Though Dolittle sports an amazing cast with the likes of Robert Downey Jr., Tom Holland, Emma Thompson, Rami Malek, and many other names you definitely know, it has already established itself as a box office disappointment.

Though both critics and regular audiences didn’t like the film, some have claimed that children will still love it. So, if you are looking for some movie fun time with your child, Dolittle might be your best bet.

The Gentlemen - January 24

Guy Ritchie’s creation The Gentlemen has already premiered in many countries, its U.S. release planned for January 24th. So far, both the critics and the regular audiences loved the film, so there is a big chance American audiences will love it too.

The film stars Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, Henry Golding, and others. The Gentlemen is about a drug lord who tries to sell off his lucrative empire to  billionaires in Oklahoma.

Color Out of Space - January 24

Color Out of Space already has decent audience ratings and  a mind-blowing critical response (90% on Rotten Tomatoes). Considering such reception, this might actually be Nicolas Cage’s comeback, as he is the lead of the film.

The movie is based on a short story by H.P. Lovecraft, The Colour Out of Space. It has a unique visual style with both the special effects and the acting being praised by critics. If you are a fan of psychedelic flicks, this is the one you definitely need to see.

Come to Daddy - February 7

Surprisingly for many critics who already saw it, this horror movie was actually quite good. Come to Daddy stars Elijah Wood, who you might know from Peter Jackson’s acclaimed The Lord of the Rings epic fantasy trilogy.

Even though Come to Daddy is rated R and has a lot of violence, it also tackles mature themes very well. The story follows the thirty-something-year-old Norval Greenwood who travels to a remote cabin to reconnect with his father.

The Lodge - February 7

You might not have heard much about The Lodge, but judging by the critic reviews, this film is going to be great. Though the cast is not well known, you might recognize some faces (for example, Jaeden Martell who starred in the recent Stephen King adaptations of IT).

The film premiered a year ago at the Sundance Film Festival and got a positive reception. The Lodge tells the story of Grace, who will soon become the stepmother to two kids. However, when the three start bonding, they get caught in a remote holiday village and scary things start happening.

Birds of Prey - February 7

Perhaps the loudest premiere of winter will be Birds of Prey. One of DC’s two major releases in 2020, the film focuses on Harley Quinn, who earlier appeared in Suicide Squad, as she breaks up with Joker and goes on her own adventures, forming the team known as Birds of Prey.

The main cast is made up of Margot Robbie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Rosie Perez, and others. Even though DC does not have a good record of creating quality movies, taking the success of Joker into account, we could still expect something good to come out of this movie.

Sonic the Hedgehog - February 14

Even though the initial trailer received a lot of criticism, the studio then changed Sonic’s design, which could be a good sign that they are actually going to listen to what fans want. Who knows — movie might be great despite many game adaptations failing miserably.

Sonic the Hedgehog tells the story of Sonic. who teams up with the new sheriff in a small town to be able to escape from the government and the evil Doctor Robotnik. With Jim Carrey starring as Robotnik, this role might really be great.

The Call of the Wild - February 21

Starring Harrison Ford in the title role, The Call of the Wild will be the first film that will not have the word “Fox” in the title of “20th Century Fox”. It is both a remake of the 1935 film and an adaptation of the 1903 novel of the same name by Jack London.

Another notable cast member is Karen Gillan, who will star as Mercedes. Though there is not much to be said about the upcoming adventure movie, it will probably turn out a great watch for the whole family.

The Invisible Man - February 28

Just like The Call of the Wild, The Invisible Man is also both a remake (of 1933’s The Invisible Man) and an adaptation (of H.G. Wells’ 1897 novel of the same name). The movie was originally intended to be a part of Universal’s cinematic universe with its classic monsters, but plans changed rapidly after that.

Starring Elisabeth Mos,s the film tells the story of a woman named Cecilia whose abusive ex dies and leaves his fortune for her. She at first thinks it is a hoax, but then she starts being hunted by someone nobody else can see.
