Quentin Tarantino’s films generally follow morally ambiguous characters. Sometimes, even the protagonists who are supposed to be the heroes of the story are downright reprehensible. It’s part of the reason why his output is so unique and beloved, though many detractors would say it’s why they disdain his stories. Some abhor seeing horrific acts on screen, but they should always remember that depiction is not the same as condoning. These are only movies, after all, and are made purely for entertainment....

Actor Will Ferrell has appeared in 55 feature films since 1997. Some of these are classic comedies where Ferrell’s broad comedy excels. Others are not. Duds are an inevitability when combining Ferrell’s prolific output with the type of comedy he honed on Saturday Night Live and Ferrell has more than his fair share. Sometimes he’s terribly miscast, the script isn’t right or a dramatic pivot just doesn’t work. The sheer number of films based on SNL skits in his filmography does not help his ratio of hits and misses....

The zombie movie genre has gone through a lot of changes over the last 80 years. The original zombie is something most of today’s movie fans would never recognize, based in the realm of voodoo rather than the dead walking again. However, after filmmakers like Val Lewton mastered the original zombie horror, George Romero created a new sort of zombie and changed everything. About a decade after Romero introduced the idea of the dead returning to life with a thirst for brains, other filmmakers moved quickly....

Whether they exist in nature or in our minds, monsters remind us of our place in the world. Some of these creatures distance themselves from civilization, whereas others lurk nearby. For years, films have given shape to our fear of the unnatural. Xenomorphs changed how we think of aliens. David Cronenberg’s The Fly showed how we make our own monsters. And dinosaurs were no longer a fantasy in Jurassic Park. But for every successful-looking monster, there are ones who undermine their own fearfulness....

Traditionally we digest stories linearly and in chronological order. What happens first we find out about first, the second thing comes second, and so on. As storytelling becomes more complex and nuanced, however, storytellers mess with traditional formulas and present more challenging structures: unreliable narrators, genre-hopping, and the one we’re checking in on here, time distortion. Sometimes a story is just that much more interesting if we’re given a glimpse into the future of our tale....

Both Naruto and Naruto: Shippuden produced a large stable of shinobis with an array of jutsus and hidden talents. From this group, some of these characters grew before our eyes over the many chapters of manga or episodes of anime (fans likely saw both). However, some shinobi never outgrew their original concepts, and some even became less impressive as time went on. Look, it is always subjective to talk about which character is strong and which character is weak....

The trailer for season three of Netflix’s Stranger Things has been released and between its humor and horror, it couldn’t have teased us enough. We can’t wait for the next season to air this summer, or to see what’s in store for Will, Dustin, Mike, Lucas, Eleven, Max and the rest of our favorite faces as well as the newcomers to the show. In addition to both laugh and scream-worthy moments, the trailer delivered several key clues to help pinpoint just what we can expect in this next season of the show....

The Austin Powers franchise is like no other. It can’t even be compared to any other spoof movies and most cinematic parodies out there. Mike Myers’ curious creation combines a parody of the tropes and motifs of the James Bond franchise with a satire of the swinging culture of the ‘60s. It’s also a fish-out-of-water story that’s filled with delightfully absurdist gags and unforgettably goofy characters. Naturally, with a series of comedy movies this unique in tone and premise and comic vision, there are plenty of interesting nuggets of trivia behind their creation and production....

Superman’s greatest foe, Lex Luthor is one of comics most well-known and feared villains. An idealist billionaire, Lex has used his ruthless intellect to combat Superman in every way possible. Known for his cunning as well as his wealth, Luthor has remained one of DC’s most active villains. With a history almost as long as Superman’s, Luthor continues to cause trouble for Superman and probably will for years to come....

As far as couples from The Office are concerned, it’s usually Jim and Pam that are talked about the most, with couples like Michael and Holly and Dwight and Angela getting occasional attention. While Jim and Pam are often seen as couple goals, there is one other couple that has some great moments that don’t get enough love. While Phyllis and Bob Vance might have their own issues and aren’t by no means perfect, they also seem to have a good relationship in many ways....

The beautiful interstellar drama Ad Astra does what all good space movies strive to do; it adapts current technological advancements to its narrative and incorporates them into its vision of the “near future”. Roy McBride (Brad Pitt) is a Space Command astronaut sent on a perilous mission to Neptune, hoping to discover the fate of his missing father, as well as Project Lima, the research from which has resulted in cosmic rays surging towards Earth and threatening to wipe out humankind....

In passing I figured some may be interested in this ten-point list over at FutureMedica (“The future of healthcare and biotechnology”) which tells us all about ten different ways in which the iPad is changing healthcare. The list pretty much underlines how the iPad is taking a chunk out of the tablet/netbook market. It is also offering a much more user-focused way in which to navigate tasks you may once have engaged in using a notebook....

Why not add some killer sharks, scrap metal, and tidal waves into the mix? After all, what’s more exciting than watching the world’s most populous cities and most iconic landmarks being destroyed in films that feature freak natural disasters? The answer: natural disaster films that employ cheap special effects, terrible actors, and dialogue that makes anyone cry from laughter....

Pixar is famous for its feature-length films with its amazing characters and plots. It has brought to life toys, cars, emotions, and robots while also bringing new light to animals and humans. We love watching their stories as the characters navigate through their own worlds. While the films are fantastic and successful, you can’t discuss Pixar without also mentioning their shorts, little stories that often appear before Pixar’s feature length films....

South Park and Family Guy are two shows that are constantly getting compared to one another. Sure, there are some similarities between the two programs. They’re both crass. They’re both animated. They’re both hilarious. Yet despite these few elements, Parker and Stone’s show is vastly different from Macfarlane’s. One show is a satirical masterpiece while the other is pure entertainment. One offers food for thought while the other offers chicken fights....

Movie directors can become famous if their work clicks with audiences and their stylistic flourishes are noticeable. Even Michael Bay could be considered an auteur – most moviegoers can tell if they’re watching a Michael Bay movie. Great directors can make dozens of movies and still be best-known for a small handful. Ridley Scott is more famous for Blade Runner than A Good Year. Most of the time, a director’s less famous work is less famous for a reason (case in point: A Good Year)....

Sitcoms have been around for over 70 years, and from the earliest days of the genre, family stories were incredibly common. Sitcoms have almost always revolved around families and their daily lives, regardless of whether the attention was on the adults or the children in the family in question. As a result of being a television genre bursting with hilarious and relatable family stories, sitcoms have prominently featured mother characters who have been as hilarious as they have been harried, as overbearing as they are loving, and as downright iconic as any other characters in sitcom history....

Despite some initial controversy—which seems inevitable in hindsight—Paramount+‘s Halo series is a worthy expenditure of time in an increasingly crowded entertainment market. The show takes place in what’s called the “Silver Timeline,” which exists outside of the core narrative seen in Bungie and 343’s games. Like in those games, the primary character is Master Chief, but the series’ John-117 is undergoing an identity crisis, like RoboCop in green armor. It’s a powerful journey that matches the character’s physical capabilities, but he’s not the only tough person on Halo’s character roster....

While the 1984 blockbuster film Gremlins is incredibly entertaining and was a commercial success, that doesn’t mean it was a perfect movie. In the 1980s, audiences weren’t nearly as hard on movie makers, and today we demand answers to questions like… where are the other kind mogwai, and why doesn’t Gizmo turn evil? Sure, realism isn’t the biggest issue here, but some of these things just don’t add up. WarnerMedia has announced a 10-episode series, Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai, that will serve as a prequel to the original film and its 1990 sequel....

The Duffer Brothers’ Stranger Things is set way back in the 1980s when things were very different from now. Not only are the clothes, hairstyles and décor very much of the time but each bit of technology is also reflective of this era. The crew went to great lengths to ensure that the show perfectly mimics the 80’s, from the outdated technology to the replica covers of old Dungeons and Dragons manuals for the time....
